Policy and Research

We believe that parent-to-parent friendly support changes lives for the better. We also have evidence of the effect Home-Start has on lives and communities.

Home-Start has a long tradition of working with independent academic researchers to look at the work we do. Their evidence demonstrates over and over again that the Home-Start approach is effective and cost-effective, and that parents feel that their lives have been changed by Home-Start.

Research into Home-Start has been published in several countries, including Australia, the Netherlands and the UK. We pride ourselves on being a learning organisation, unafraid to scrutinise our work.

We welcome interest from academics considering a research project into our work, although as a charity with limited resources we cannot work with everyone who approaches us. We do not have funding available for research projects of this sort.

Policy

Because we believe that families deserve excellent support, we strive to make sure that our service is the best it can be.

Home-Start schemes all work to high quality standards. The work of volunteers is supervised, as is the work of all staff. We pride ourselves on our training of volunteers and staff and we are making training resources available for management committees around the world.

Together, Home-Start national associations are working on new international quality standards for schemes around the world, aimed primarily at safeguarding children and ensuring that the service we provide has a positive impact on the lives of children in the families we support.
