Legacies

Leaving a gift in your will (a legacy) gives you the opportunity to extend your support to Home-Start beyond your lifetime.  And because charitable bequests, in the UK, are free of inheritance tax, a gift to Home-Start could reduce the tax payable on your estate.

Leaving a legacy is simple.

If you have already written your will, you can ask your solicitor to attach a codicil, a written instruction that allows for changes to an existing will.

If you do not have a will, you will need to complete a few easy tasks:

  • make a list of your assets
  • decide who you want to pass your assets to – you do not need to make a difficult choice between family or charity, you can remember both
  • choose your executors – these are people who make sure your wishes are carried out, such as family members, friends or solicitors
  • choose a solicitor – whilst you can draw up your own will, it is advisable to recruit the services of a solicitor to ensure it is legally correct

If you choose to leave a legacy to Home-Start International you will need the charity number 1076991 and our registered address: 2nd Floor, 6 Market Place, London, W1W 8AF.  We can assure you that any gift, large or small, will go on to have a great impact on the lives of vulnerable babies and young children.

If you would like more information about leaving a legacy to Home-Start International, or to Home-Start schemes around the world, we would be happy to talk to you in complete confidence, by phone or e-mail.
