Everybody needs a little help from time to time – parents in particular.

At Home-Start, we understand that bringing up children can be tough. We see that some families have to cope with almost overwhelming difficulties, and that parents rise to the challenges over and over again.

But sometimes, they could use a helping hand.

Home-Start offers that helping hand with friendship and support. If a family asks for support, we will match them with a trained volunteer from their local community. The volunteer will visit the family, usually in the family home, often for a couple of hours a week, offering friendly help and support over a period of several months, sometimes longer.

Friendships form, lives are transformed.

Parents come to Home-Start for all kinds of reasons.

They could be finding it hard to cope with a child’s illness or disability

They could be struggling with their own health

They might be living in debt, poor housing and poverty

They may be trying to meet the demands of a large family or twins

We will support any family who needs us, as long as they have at least one child under five.
