National Organiser for Schemes

Origins

Home-Start was first established in Ireland in 1988 when the Blanchardstown scheme was set up in Dublin by Anna Lynch. There are currently five schemes operating in the Republic of Ireland - in Blanchardstown, Lucan, Athenry/Loughrea, Swords and Tallaght.

National Office

With support from Minister Mary Hanafin, then Minister for Children, funding was awarded for the setting up of a national office in 2002 to provide policy training, information, guidance and personal support for existing and new schemes. Each scheme has a multi-disciplinary management committee responsible for all aspects of the effective management of the organisation to ensure high standards of practice and adherence to the Home-Start standards and methods of practice and Home-Start Agreement.

In 2008, with support from the One Foundation, the Home-Start National Office completed an intensive three year business planning process, interacting with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. As a result One Foundation has provided the National Office with funding support in 2009 to assist in the establishment of our immediate term goal of establishing two new Home-Start schemes in Ireland in 2009.

Anna Lynch retired from Home-Start in 2008. Paul Martin, the Project Development Director, now heads the National Office.
