We began Home-Start Kenya way back in the year 2001 without any funding. Despite this, we have managed to recruit and train 16 organisers who in turn recruited and trained, via the preparation course, most of their volunteers. However, in 2003 some funding came our way from the Vodafone Group Foundation as well as from Reckit Benckiser. This supplemented the initial efforts of Home-Start International. On 8th July 2003 Home-Start Kenya held a colourful ceremony where Vodafone Group Foundation and Reckitt Benckiser presented us with their funding. This was attended by, amongst others, Tanya Barron, then Director of Home-Start International.

About the Schemes

With the funds available, we have managed to start up and have fully operational sixteen schemes. We have found that most families are coming to Home-Start mainly by way of identification by the volunteers.
