ORIGIN

Home-Start South Africa was founded by Anne Hart and registered in 2001 as a Non-Profit Organisation.  A National Body was established in 2006 in order to facilitate the growth of Home-Start South Africa and most importantly to fulfil the goal of the establishment of new schemes across South Africa. Lack of funding is a major constraint to the growth of Home-Start South Africa.

SCHEMES

The Benoni scheme was the first established scheme and Home-Start Etwatwa was started as a satellite to the Benoni scheme. Subsequently the name of Home-Start Etwatwa changed to Home-Start Daveyton.

BENONI

The scheme covers neighbouring suburbs and referrals from the surrounding towns of Boksburg, Germiston, Brakpan, Edenvale and Kempton Park.  The scheme provides counselling, play mediation, assisted reading and homework times for children, post partum depression group meetings and home visits.

DAVEYTON - “ISIQALO SEKHAYA”

The Daveyton scheme is based on the premises of the Daveyton Intermediate School.  The scheme covers neighbouring suburbs and referrals from Etwatwa, Kingsway and Springs. We provide home visits, counselling with other NGOs and assistance with applications for legal documents. The very real issue of extreme poverty and cultural diversity has proved to be somewhat of a hindrance but with perseverance the scheme has continued to operate.

FUTURE ACTIVITIES

It is hoped that with the renewed focus on funding, Home-Start South Africa will be able to open more schemes across the country and for us to be able to offer support to many more families.
